What’s the Next Big Trend for Utilities?

January 25, 2013 Posted by

According to SmartGrid News.com, outage management systems (OMS) are on the rise and will be the next big trend at North American utilities.

Outdated OMS systems are a thing of the past.

A survey of more than 14,000 utility employees found that more than half have plans to upgrade or replace their current OMS in the next one to two years. With outage management being a top priority for utility users, companies are forced to take a closer look at their OMS and determine if their system meets the expectations of their customers.

Using an outage management system, utility companies can detect potential problems before an outage occurs, and when an outage does occur, it’s easier to pinpoint the exact location of the outage to get the power back on faster.

Stay ahead of the trend.

Don’t get left behind with your current OMS. Read more about “Why so many utilities will be replacing their outage management systems.”

Intergraph is positioned well to take advantage of this trend. Much of this latest focus on OMS was due to Hurricane Sandy that hit the eastern cost of the US and did massive damage. Intergraph’s OMS is used by customers in the Northeast who worked through this difficult weather event. Our system stood up despite massive power outages and helped those customers restore service to millions. I would stack Intergraph’s OMS up to anyone in the business.
